The goal is not to change your subjects, but for the subject to change the photographer. ~Author Unknown

Tim Meyer

M. Photog. Cr., CPP

One light, Two light, Three light, more...

Ratios, pixels, chimping, metering, soft lights, hard lights, posing, lighting patterns…..it can all be so confusing and overwhelming. Every consumer can set their camera on auto exposure, auto focus and TTL flash. To compete in today’s photographic marketplace, professional photographers must be able to create a style and craftsmanship which the average consumer cannot duplicate.

Designed with the beginning/intermediate professional in mind, Tim will teach a fundamental lighting and posing class emphasizing the basic elements of quality studio portraiture. Tim will expose the students to the discovery of the beauty of light and the power and emotion it can add to their photography.

The students will leave with a solid understanding of portrait lighting, how to apply it with style and how to both flatter and creatively interpret their photographic subjects. They will be released from the intimidation of their camera and lighting equipment and will have the tools to set a solid foundation for their future artistic styles.

Photographer, educator and author, Tim Meyer is passionate about the field of photography. With over 30 years as a professional photographer, Tim brings experience and energy to his programs and possesses a unique ability to simplify the complicated. Tim mixes our rich artistic heritage with today’s modern styles and enlightens and inspires his students.

Tim is the recipient of the Professional Photographers of America’s coveted Masters and Craftsman degrees, and has also been awarded an academic Master of Arts degree in Fine Art Photography. In addition to numerous one-man exhibitions of his fine art work, Tim’s photography has been internationally recognized for its innovative style and technique.

He currently teaches full-time and is the Portrait Division Chair at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California while maintaining a nationally acclaimed commission based portrait and wedding business. He served as the 2008/2009 President of Professional Photographers of California.

Tim’s articles on photography and art are published internationally and his book, The Portrait, Understanding Portrait Photography, is currently available through Amazon.
